Rack and pinion drive systems are one of the most common methods used to move machine axes. They are especially preferred in machines with long stroke distances. If you are going to use rack and pinion in your machine and you need precision, you should definitely choose helical rack and pinion.
However, when making this choice, you should first pay attention to the cost of rack and pinion.Because the cost of helical rack and pinion is more than straight type.Helical ones are expensive because they are more difficult to manufacture.
However, when it comes to precision, helical rack and pinion are more advantageous in terms of both accuracy and transmissible force since they have more contact surfaces.
Of course, good assembly is as important as a good product. For this reason, we need to know some technical details and values about rack and pinion assembly.
Before starting the assembly, we need to know the allowed deviation values.
Recommended shoulder height is minimum 1 mm or greater. For module 2, shoulder height generally manufactured in 3mm height as standard by machine manufacturers. Radius needs to be limited at 0.5mm.
After this theoretical knowledge, other things we should have are screw clamp, mounting aid and wood blocks.
First, make sure that the mounting surface is clean.
Place racks and use the screw clamps to clamp the rack.with wooden blocks.
The mounting aid piece should be placed at the joint ends of the racks.
Tighten all screws.
After this step, we need to check the deviation value as shown in the table below.
In micrometer measurements, if the deviation between the junction point and any tooth on the rack does not exceed the value in the table, the assembly is correct. You must use measurement pin on this operation.
